LETS TALK ABOUT HOLI FESTIVAL

Holi is a one of the major festivals of India. Holi is a religious and cultural festival that involves more than 5 legends. This religious spring festival is celebrated by Hindus, as a festival of colors, this celebration takes place between 7th and 20th march. The festival is fantastic because it is celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun. For Hindus this celebration is one of the most special moments in the year.

On the first day the women cook traditional dishes for example: GUJIYA, MATHRI AND PAPRI. On the next day the principal activity it’s a huge parade, in this parade people used throw each other massive amounts of colorfully powders, and the use of water guns. This is why Holi is given the name “Festival of Colors”, too during the festival are parades and parties where people throw colored water colors flour and dress of different colors. Finally their oldest tradition is to exchange home-made sweets that represent luck and wellness.

Holi is an ancient Indian festival and was originally known as 'Holika'. “It is said that Holi existed several centuries before Christ. However, the meaning of the festival is believed to have changed over the years. Earlier it was a special rite performed by married women for the happiness and well-being of their families and the full moon (Raka) was worshiped”[1]. Nowadays people are concerned about celebrating an eco-friendly Holi festival, because during the festival they use lots of water with no real purpose, also this concerned is focusing in the powders used in the parade because they are trying to change the old toxic powders to new green powders.

After knowing the traditions, history and activities I can recommend this festival because it’s wonderful. Everybody should assist and I guarantee that they will have tons and tons of fun with family, this festival is one excuse to act like children again, it doesn’t mind if you are young or not. They are now so unique and special is the spirit of it which remains the same throughout the country and even across the globe, wherever it is celebrated.
